Lodge from Hayfild

Double Hill Ranch & Lodge is located in the Cariboo district at beautiful Bridge Lake in the heart of the Interlakes area, a high plateau on 1200 m alt. between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Rocky Mountains to the east. The area is famous for literally hundreds of lakes in all sizes and shapes. The most famous and beautiful lakes are Lac des Roches, Sheridan Lake, Green Lake and of course Bridge Lake. The nature is spectacular with rolling hills, rivers, forests, mountains and valleys. Here you find all kinds of wildlife like bald eagle, deer, moose, black bears, coyotes, wolves and cougars. There are even rumors that the legendary Sasquatch also known as Big Foot is visiting the area from time to time. Of course we can not confirm that ….

The outdoor activities in this wonderful surrounding area endless. You can go for a horseback ride starting at a 2 hour trail ride up to a multi day backcountry ride; you can do hiking or mountain biking; explore the area on guided ATV trips or see the beauty of the lakes from a boat or a canoe. The rich wildlife is there to be explored, from bird watching or seeing the big ones like moose or black bear.  If you like to fish there is world famous fly fishing just around the corner or in winter try ice fishing directly on a frozen lake. Speaking of winter, this season is just as beautiful as summer with endless blue skies, the freshest air and lots of winter sorts like snow shoeing, snowmobiling or cross country skiing.

We are happy to make the arrangements for you to make the most out of your Cariboo experience.

Of course the best activity of all is possible at our ranch, Limitless relaxation in your room, on the deck or a quiet walk on our ranches trail system, accompanied by our loyal dogs Rudy and Benji, who are more than happy to meet new friends…

Only 45 min northeast Wells Gray Park awaits its visitors with its spectacular waterfalls, among them the second highest falls in Canada, only beaten by the world famous Niagara Falls in Ontario. There are various possibilities for hiking, kayaking, horseback riding etc.

Your hosts

Your hosts are originally from Germany and Switzerland. Both worked very successfully in the management consultancy industry for many years. After some health related issues necessary changes had to be made. When Elke and Stefan came to Bridge Lake for the first time, they fell in love with the area. After searching two years for the right property, they finally found Double Hill Ranch, a historic 150 acre ranch, located at the east end of Bridge Lake.

Due to the extensive traveling all over the world they were influenced by many great and beautiful places and accommodations. Those experiences were used during the planning and construction process of the lodge. In addition unique art work was gathered in the years of traveling which now decorate the lodge. In every room, in every corner or on every wall you find beautiful pieces from all over the world, like for example original aboriginal paintings and wooden art work from Australia, stone sculptures from Guatemala and Belize, modern Mayan art from Mexico as well as the regional cowboy country artwork expressed through paintings from the highly talented and well known Diane Farell-Adams.

The entire lodge is individually designed and decorated. The owners are very proud to share their memories and dreams with their guests.

The Ranch

Since the late 19th century the ranch was used as a cattle and hay ranch. Today the fields are used in cooperation with a local rancher whose cows are grazing on the ranch. In addition to that large quantities of high quality hay are produced.

There are various pasture areas for the cattle, large hayfields and beautiful forest areas with mixed trees like pine, spruce, cedar and birch trees. Wild rose bushes, wonderful color full wild flowers and bushes are everywhere.

The horses have a wide area to walk and look for the yummy goodies nature offers them.

One of the highlights is without any question the little lake and its shore lines. It is a beautiful little lake, fed by three springs which is home for many kinds of birds, ducks, frogs and fishes. Sometimes even a couple of loons make it their home. In summer there are hundreds of waterlillies along the shore. Depending on the season and the time of the day it looks different, but it is always magical.

The historic out buildings, where the first owners of the ranch lived around 1900 are still there and can be visited.
